App Monetization

Monetization that grows revenue without hurting trust

How an app makes money shapes almost everything else: onboarding, retention, reviews and how much you can spend on acquisition. We design and implement subscriptions, in-app purchases and, where it suits the product, advertising. That covers StoreKit and Google Play Billing integration, often through RevenueCat, paywall design, trials and offers, and the experiments that show which price and placement work best. We run premium subscriptions on our own apps, so we know the edge cases that only appear in production.

What we deliver

Monetization model

A recommendation on subscriptions, one-time purchases, consumables, ads or a mix, based on your costs and how people use the app.

Subscriptions and in-app purchases

StoreKit 2 and Google Play Billing implementation with entitlements, restores, upgrades, grace periods and server-side validation.

Paywall design

Paywalls that explain the value clearly, show prices and terms honestly and appear at moments where the upgrade makes sense.

Pricing and paywall experiments

Tests of price points, plan lengths, trial offers and paywall layouts, measured on conversion and revenue per user.

Trials and offers

Free trials, introductory prices, promotional and offer codes, and win-back offers for lapsed subscribers where supported.

Ads and mediation

Rewarded and interstitial ads with mediation through AdMob or AppLovin MAX, used only where they fit the product and audience.

How we approach it

Built on the stores’ rules

App Store and Google Play have strict rules on digital purchases, subscription disclosures and trial terms. We design within them so reviews pass and refunds stay low.

Test price and placement

Price, trial length and paywall timing often matter more than paywall design. We test them in a structured way rather than guessing once and leaving it.

Long-term revenue over quick wins

Aggressive paywalls can lift first-day conversion and then cost you in refunds, churn and ratings. We track revenue over time, not just the first purchase.

Questions

Should we use RevenueCat?

For most apps selling subscriptions on both iOS and Android, yes. It handles receipt validation, cross-platform entitlements, webhooks and paywall experiments, and its pricing is free up to a revenue threshold, then a share of revenue. Building directly on StoreKit 2 and Google Play Billing with your own backend can make sense if you want full control or have high revenue. We can work either way.

Subscription, one-time purchase or ads?

Subscriptions suit apps that deliver ongoing value or carry ongoing costs, such as AI features, content or sync. One-time purchases fit tools with a stable feature set. Ads can work for high-usage free apps where users are unlikely to pay. Many apps combine a free tier, a subscription and limited ads. We base the choice on your usage and cost data.

How do you run pricing experiments on mobile?

We serve different paywalls, prices or offers to randomised user groups using RevenueCat Experiments or a remote config tool, then compare conversion and revenue per user over enough time to include renewals. Prices themselves must be set up as products in App Store Connect and Play Console beforehand.

Should we offer a free trial?

Trials help when users need time to experience the value, and they are common in subscription apps. They can also attract people who never intend to pay. We usually test trial against no trial, and different trial lengths, and look at paid conversion and refunds rather than trial starts alone.

Can you add monetization to an app that is already live?

Yes. We add in-app purchases or subscriptions to existing iOS and Android apps, plan how to treat current users fairly, and set up tracking so you can compare revenue and retention before and after the change.
